Team Sunderland’s week 16 round-up
From a team reaching a cup final to winning runs continuing, it has been another great set of results for Team Sunderland on week 16 of their 2023/24 BUCS season.
Performance of the week went to the Men’s Rugby Union 1sts, as they progressed to the final of the Northern Conference Shield with a 33-16 point victory away to Leeds’ 4ths, and have set up a clash with Northumbria’s 5ths next Wednesday at Durham University.
It was also success for the Women’s Rugby Union 1sts, as they made it three wins on the bounce with a 32-10 win over Leeds’ 2nds at Ashbrooke Sports Club.
In the football matches that took place across the day, there was only one victory, as the Men’s 3rds beat Richmond’s 1sts 2-1 at Ford Quarry Hub.
However, there was a comfortable defeat for the Men’s 4ths, as they lost 9-0 to Newcastle’s 3rds, whilst the Men’s 1sts’ five-match unbeaten run ended with a 3-1 defeat away to Leeds’ 3rds.
For the Women’s 1sts, they also tasted defeat, as they lost 2-0 to Newcastle’s 1sts, but don’t have long before they can try and take revenge, as both face off again on Monday night; this time on home turf.
Meanwhile, the Men’s Badminton 1sts extended their winning run to four matches, as they eased past Manchester’s 3rds with a 7-1 victory.
In Netball, there were mixed fortunes for the two teams in action, as the 1sts bounced back from last week’s Northern Conference Trophy semi-final defeat with a 49-42 win over Teesside’s 1sts to make it three consecutive league wins.
Yet, it was a narrow loss for the 3rds away from home, as they were defeated 28-33 to Huddersfield’s 3rds.
