Match Preview: Tamworth v Sunderland U21
Sunderland U21’s travel to The Lamb Ground on Tuesday night looking to pick up their first win in this years National League Cup against Tamworth.
Last time out:
Sunderland travelled to Boston United where they were subject to their first defeat in five games with Dan Mooney getting the only goal of the game.
The hosts managed to salvage a 1-1 draw in their last outing against Ebbsfleet United after Toby Edser put the visitors ahead. Kai Williams levelled the match with ten minutes to go rescuing a point for Tamworth.
The last match in the National League Cup for Tamworth was against Newcastle U21s where they were held to a 1-1 draw eventually losing out on penalties 6-5.
Both sides have never faced eachother before and will be desperate to pick up their first win after their disappointing start to the campaign.
Team news:
There are no fresh injuries or suspensions for the Black Cats however they will be missing Ben Metcalf and Milan Aleksic who have been called up for international duty.
As for the visitors, they also have a no players missing out. However forward Dan Creaney and midfielder Nathan Tshikuna are one yellow away from a suspension so may tread carefully.
Players to watch:
Sunderland attacking midfielder Adil Aouchiche has been featuring in the under 21s recently and with Aleksic away on international duty this may be a game where he can bring his experience and guide Sunderland to a vital victory.
Tamworth’s Creaney has scored five goals this season and is their joint top scorer. The hosts will need him on top form if they are to win on Tuesday night.
