Thornaby extend unbeaten run to ten in hard fought home draw against Prudhoe YC

Thornaby 1-1 Prudhoe YC

Prudhoe YC battled for a point against Thornaby at Teesdale Park to continue their unbeaten run.

The YC opened the scoring in the first half through Fin Baty’s effort from distance, before Ryan Wright rescued a point for the home side in the closing stages of the game.

After beating Chester-le-Street United last Friday, Prudhoe hoped to add to their three game winning streak in the league.

On the other hand, the home team looked to stretch their impressive unbeaten run in the league to ten matches.

After a lack of clear-cut chances in the opening affairs, Prudhoe seized the lead in the 15th minute.

Harry Marr found Collins Unuareokpa on the edge of the box, who then laid the ball off to Baty. The full back’s powerful strike from range nestled into the side netting of Mark Foden’s left corner.

Five minutes later, Baty nearly secured his brace, with the left back’s promising set piece forcing Foden to tip over the bar.

Thornaby came out in the second half with a point to prove, however Prudhoe’s Tom Dawson was yet to be tested.

The home side almost gained a foothold in the tie when Charlie Hindson fired just past the left post, after combining well with Elliot Beddow.

That said, the YC’s lead was almost doubled in the 65th minute. Darren Graham unleashed Michael Wright down the right channel. From there, the forward’s chipped effort was read well by Foden, keeping his team in the game.

As the half progressed, Thornaby piled on the pressure, with Prudhoe hoping to hang on for three points.

In the 87th minute, the Blues secured their equaliser. Wright latched onto the ball following miscommunication in Prudhoe’s backline, and audaciously lobbed Dawson to get Thornaby back in the game.

Following the goal, a new sense of belief emerged in the home side, setting up for a tense climax to the tie.

In the final moments, a volley from range almost sparked delight for all in blue. Luckily for the YC, the strike flew just over the bar.

This chance proved to be the last in the game. With the clock at 95 minutes, the sides were forced to share the spoils as the referee blew for full time.

Next week sees Prudhoe back at Essity Park, welcoming FC Hartlepool in the league.
