Report: Whitley Warriors 3-6 Leeds Knights

The Whitley Warriors fell 3-6 against Leeds Knights in a frustrating game that saw them come away with nothing despite a strong performance.

Leeds took a 2-0 lead through goals from Michael Danecko and Fritz Heinzle before Jamie Ord struck  back for Whitley.

Phil Edgar levelled the scores in the second period but another Heinzle goal restored the lead for the Knights. Jay Lucas managed to once again tie the game before the period ended.

A 3rd period hattrick from Danecko saw Leeds come away with a comfortable 3-6 win.

The match was Leeds first ever visit to the Whitley Bay Ice Rink.

Danecko gave the Knights the lead halfway through the first period, after Whitley were caught on the break before Heinzle then doubled the lead with an unassisted goal two minutes later.

14 minutes in, Ord scored Whitley’s first goal of the match causing the fans to throw Teddy Bears onto the ice as part of a planned charity event. The teddy Bears will now be donated to a children’s organization.

Just two minutes into the second period, Edgar controlled the puck into the Knights zone and fired past goaltender Harrison Walker.

The Knights quickly responded as Heinzle got his second of the game after the Warriors were caught on the break.

Halfway through the period, a chaotic scene in front of the Knights’ goal saw multiple Whitley players get shots away before Lucas eventually managed to find the back of the net with his effort.

Within just 6 minutes of the third period beginning Danecko gave his side a two goal cushion after he scored twice on the break.

With two minutes left, Danecko fired home his fourth into an empty net after Whitley pulled their netminder to seal a 6-3 victory for the Knights.
