Match Report: Sunderland U21s 1-2 Sheffield United U21s
Sunderland U21s suffered defeat in the Premier League cup last night on the road to Sheffield United.
Harrison Jones gave the Black Cats an early lead however second half strikes from Owen Hampson and Zain Tahir gave Group D leaders Sheffield United all three points.
Joe Anderson, Trey Ogunsuyi, Harrison Jones and Ben Middlemass all featured from the start following their trip to Millwall with the first team.
Sunderland continued their good habit of staring strong and lead after a good bit of build up play found Middlemass who played through Jones to finish near post inside the area.
Jewison Bennette came close to doubling Sunderland’s advantage before half-time however his effort struck the crossbar.
The hosts came out strong after the break and started to play, Anderson denied Jevan Beattie with a goalline clearance, stopping a certain equaliser.
At the other end Jones rattled the woodwork from distance as he looked for his second on the night.
With just 15 left to play the Blades found their equaliser, Dan Cameron’s initial save counted for nothing as Hampson was on hand to finish for 1-1.
Just a few moments later the hosts pressure paid off as a set play was volleyed past Cameron by Tahir to confirm all three points for the Blades.
