Boldon CA manager Dan Crooks reflects on his dismissal during derby defeat
Boldon CA manager Dan Crooks was sent off on Tuesday night for his vocal disapproval towards Liam Heywood’s sin-bin in the 72nd minute.
Boldon fell short against local rivals Jarrow in a 2-0 defeat last night. A goal inside the opening minute was joined by a goal in the 88th with former Boldon striker Levi Collins sealing the deal against his old club.
The game included a fair few tenacious tackles, but tempers flared towards the end of the game.
The referee awarded a contentious throw-in to visitors, Jarrow, causing Heywood to voice his opinion to the referee and being sent to the bench for ten minutes.
This decision led to Crooks’ outrage and he was subsequently given his marching orders.
When asked about the sin-bin and the sending off, Crooks said: “It’s absolutely insane when the opposing team can have five or six players running and crowding the referee but when one player complains in a similar tone, they have to take centre-stage and effectively spoil the game.”
Boldon did well to contain the high-flying Jarrow during their period with ten, however they couldn’t quite do enough to get back into the game.
Boldon will now prepare to bounce-back against Ryton and Crawcrook Albion this Saturday.
