WWE’s main event scene has WrestleMania unpredictable
With the Road to WrestleMania nearly underway, there’s still no clear picture of the main event of both nights.
Over the past year, the likes of CM Punk, Roman Reigns, John Cena, Coumble is nearly here and is the most unpredictable Rumble match in quite some time. No clear direction exists for the main event of nights one and two of WrestleMania. Cody Rhodes, and more recently, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens have been the talk of the main WrestleMania event, with no clear direction for Night 1 and Night 2 of WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas.
One reason for this is Cena’s announcement of his farewell tour. This year will be Cena’s last WrestleMania as an active in-ring competitor. So, most assume he will be in one of the main events, competing for a Championship to earn a 17th World title, breaking Ric Flair’s record.
However, Punk hopes to wrestle at his first WrestleMania since returning to the WWE. Punk missed out last year due to an injury. The Second City Saint is a massive draw for WWE, and they would want to capitalise on his popularity, especially if Punk wins the Royal Rumble on Saturday night in India.
Last year, Punk was planning to wrestle Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship, presumably the main event on Saturday night. What more significant matchup for Punk at Mania 41 than taking on Roman Reigns?
Speaking of Reigns, there are multiple directions to take with him; as mentioned above, you could go the way of what many fans made their voices heard through the number of social media views Punk vs Roman. Or do they wait and see what The Rock’s schedule is like?
With the characters’ current state, there is no better time to proceed with this match, but whether WWE can get Rock to work the show of shows is a matter. Otherwise, the other option would be to rerun Roman vs. Cody, but many would think it’d be too soon.
As for Cody, he has a target on his back with his status as WWE Champion, but there are at least three or maybe even four potential options for him to face at Mania; Reigns is one of them, but how about a match with either Punk, Cena, or Randy Orton?
With all three of these guys, Rhodes has a shared history and a shared relationship, each making a strong case for a Mania main event because Rhodes is the face of the company right now, and he will almost certainly be headlining one of the nights. Could it be Punk? They teased on Monday Night. Once the Rumble is out, we may see who the American Nightmare will face at WrestleMania.
Lastly, there are Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, who have a history dating back to when they weren’t even in the WWE; they’ve had countless battles. But it could soon be in store for another classic. The reason for that is Owens is challenging the WWE Championship in a ladder match against Rhodes.
Meanwhile, Zayn is competing in the Rumble match, and it feels like the time is better than ever for Zayn to win his first World Championship after being part of WWE’s main roster for nine years; Owens vs Zayn for the Championship is a strong option to headline the Grandest Stage Of Them All.
It is a stacked Royal Rumble Match, and once it’s out of the way, it should give a more precise direction for what’s to come at WrestleMania
