Basketball report – Sunderland M2 vs Sheffield M3
Sunderland fought back from a difficult start to claim victory in their first game of the season.
Although Sunderland won the ball in the tip-off, Sheffield took an early lead making it 0-5 in the first 4 minutes. Team Sunderland continued to put themselves in-front soon after and didn’t look back.
Despite an aggressive third quarter and late pressure from the visitors, including a succession of fouls, Sheffield were held off by a stubborn Team Sunderland side.

Sunderland’s first point of the game came via Tanuous who ignited Team Sunderland who went on to score consecutive baskets, one of which was a three pointer, scored by Benezzi.
When the first quarter finished the score was 19 – 16 in Sunderland’s favour, the following half saw Sunderland net six baskets before Sheffield, quick to retaliate, brought It back going into the halftime break.
A fiery third quarter saw both teams cause multiple fouls, but both gained 12 points each, followed by a final quarter were Team Sunderland stepped up a level during as both teams became more desperate to be the winners of the first BUCS match of the season.
Sheffield were the first scorers of the final quarter, but Sunderland made 5 successful baskets compared to Sheffield’s 4 as the game ended with a 69 – 58 victory for Sunderland.
The standout players of the match were number 4 (Tanuous) and number 11 (Okon) who both played a vital role for Team Sunderland throughout the game and both managed to score when under pressure from Sheffield.
The next game for the Sunderland M2 team is away against Huddersfield on the 22nd October.
