Pressure is on Newcastle United to Get Away Form Right

Newcastle United’s win in the Champions League over Athletic Club was a performance and reaction that everyone expected, as the pressure now shifts to Brentford.

Newcastle’s away form has been questionable in the Premier League this season, with no wins in any of them and an embarrassing 3-1 defeat at the London Stadium to West Ham United.

The Magpies were lethargic, effortless and lacking creativity compared to what has been seen from them previously, when they would come up against teams with aggression and showed no hesitation in winning possession back.

It has been a common theme for the majority of their away games so far this season, and they got found out against a West Ham side that, before their game against Newcastle United, hadn’t won their last eight home games.

So, while a win against Athletic Club is worth discussing and generating some positivity, there should also be more ridicule and frustration, given that the team isn’t showing consistency in the League.

Dan Burn labelled it as missing the “dark arts”, which gives off the impression that the players aren’t translating that same mentality in their away fixtures.

They have performed well in the cups and at St James’ Park in the League, but Eddie Howe doesn’t want NUFC to be known for just being a team that can only get it done on the big occasions, a cup team to be precise.

Brentford have beaten the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool at the Gtech Community Stadium. Under Keith Andrews, the Bees, when at home, have been known not to be a pushover for any side.

Their set pieces are an annoyance for defenders, and so this game on Sunday, for Newcastle’s sake, is a must-win because there is no hiding anymore.

The players have come out and admitted that, after the West Ham game, they had to have uncomfortable talks and pinpoint where they’ve gone wrong.

If they don’t get a positive result in their next away game, the questions will continue to get asked about why the home performances aren’t translating to their fixtures away.

Not to mention, it could put a damper on their hopes of being in European Football again next season.
