Newcastle Blue Star scrape past Penrith to earn vital three points

Newcastle Blue Star 1-0 Penrith AFC

Newcastle Blue Star recorded back-to-back league wins for the first time in 2025.

Michael Ndiweni’s 70th minute strike was the difference between the two sides as the hosts picked up a crucial three points in their promotion race.

The home team entered the game high in confidence following an impressive four-goal performance in their previous fixture against West Allotment Celtic.

The action was quiet for the first 45 minutes, and a goal didn’t come until midway through the second half.

A lofted-through bass made its way to Nidiweni, who drove through on goal, went around the goalkeeper, and slotted the ball into the back of the net.

There was a close call for Blue Star immediately following the goal, as the away side thought they had brought the game back level. Keeper Dan Lister didn’t react quick enough to the ball going past him into the net, but the linesman pulled up his flag for offside,

Penrith did have another big chance in the second half as they exploited holes left within the hosts’ defence, but Lister made a smart stop which kept the visitors at bay.

Newcastle Blue Star remain in fifth place, a point off Boro Rangers in fourth. Their next fixture being is away to Marske United who are winless since late December.
