‘The friendships I have made are the best bit about this’ Georgia Carey on how Nova faced BCA Nationals

Georgia Carey was part of two stunt groups at the BCA Nationals, including as a flyer with Nova.

Nova placed 6th in their category on Sunday. During their performance Carey fell and her shoe came off but the team did not give up.

“Nova faced a lot of challenges at nationals. We adapted to new issues we’d never faced before, and I’m proud of how we worked together as a team. It brought us closer as a team,” Carey said.

With this being Carey’s first competition, nerves were high. She said: “Mentally, I spent a lot of time reviewing my counts and working on knowing my routines. Physically, I believe a lot of work should be done before competition, including lots of full outs to improve stamina and cardio.”

Teamwork is a vital part of cheerleading. Communicating with each person in your stunt group is key to making sure the stunts are performed safely and correctly.

“My favourite part of my routine is on switch up and toc. We worked really hard on that skill, and it shows,” Carey said.

With teamwork comes friendship. Cheerleading is a tight-knit community where everyone is uplifted no matter how they are feeling. Everyone in the group experienced the same competition and therefore feels the same whether that be disappointment or happiness.

Carey said: “I’m proud of the girls and how we all supported each other and worked together. The friendships I have made are the best bit about this.”

Nova’s next competition is at Revolution’s Rise competition on the 29th of March 2025.
