Match Report: Newcastle Benfield FC 1 – 2 Liversedge FC
Newcastle Benfield suffered late heartbreak as Liversedge come from behind in the first round of the FA Vase.
Joseph Thompson put Benfield in front before a red card for Glen Hargrave put the home side a man down heading into half-time. A second half double from Finn Donovan and Lewis Barlow ensured progression to the second round for visitors.

The Lions started strongly in the first half, matching the Yorkshire side in the opening stages of the game – before taking the lead in the 27th minute when Lewis Orrell’s shot was saved by the keeper into the path of Thompson who followed up from close into an empty net.
A defensive mix-up soon after put striker George Green through on goal, but the Sedge’ striker failed to put his effort past and onrushing Tom Shanley.
Just before half time, Liversedge were handed a huge advantage after Benfield Captain Glen Hargrave was sent off for an off the ball incident.
The visitors pressed from start of the second half, with their efforts being rewarded in the 58th minute after a short free kick routine – Finn Donavon fired home to equalise for Sedge’.
Benfield had the chance to take the lead again in the 67th minute when Thompson, from range, saw his shot hit the post and bounce back into the keeper’s hands.
Liversedge kept on searching for the winner, up until the 91st where they were able to break down Benfield’s defence. George Green’s lofted ball fell for Barlow who dispatched past Shanley.
