Local boxing talent Kenzie Phillips of Northstar ABC has recently become the Tyne Tees and Wear school boy champion after beating Hayden Gleason of Forest Hall boxing club.

Phillips went into this boxing match an underdog with a record of 1-1 while Gleason entered with an undefeated record of 3-0. The fight was scheduled for three two-minute rounds as is standard in amateur bouts

The first round opened up with Gleason displaying a beautiful combination of footwork and composure, While Phillips stayed low making Gleason miss constantly despite the speed behind his punches. Despite no big moments taking place early on both boxers managed to still put on a satisfying performance.

Round two got a lot more eventful seeing Phillips eventually successfully closing the distance between him and Gleason landing several strong hooks to the head and body which was always replied with a series of range finding jabs from Gleason.

Finally the third round was the best of the three which saw both boxers disregard a lot that was on show in the first and second round and opting to just throw everything and anything in a ditch effort to win the decisive round. Phillips was caught by a constant flurry of jabs but powered through while Gleason attempted to cover up and parry what he could.

Phillips won on a close split decision crowning him as the regional under 45kg champion. Phillips is now getting prepared to face Zayne Hussain the midlands champion in the national semi-finals.
