Northstar head coach gives insight following home show
After watching the latest Northstar home show I was fortunate enough to get an interview with Northstar head coach Danny Hopper, and was able to ask him some questions regarding the show.
After congratulating Hopper for the success of the show, I asked him what he thought about the fight of the night between Corey Wilson and Connor Wilcox.
He had this to say, “Yeah I chose to give the award to those two lads cause they really showed what amateur boxing can be like instead of just wild punching tryna score points.
I was thinking about giving it to Tyler Riley and Mason Stainthorpe just cause of how much of a scrap it was but I went for the much more technical fight.”
Following this question he went on to praise all the boxers on the show after being asked if he was happy with everyone and their performance,
“Of course I was over the moon with everyone tonight even those who came up to box our lads, I wouldn’t have put them on the show if I didn’t think they weren’t gonna try their hardest and uh clearly they all did”.
Knowing Hopper was a big fan of seeing what songs boxers walk out to I proceeded to ask him what his favourite was of the night.
“Layton’s easy, Pec [Layton Pennock] always walks out to sweet caroline and it just really gets the crowd going they love it, it’s even better when they all join in and sing which of course they did tonight, so yeah Pec’s, Pec’s was my favourite”.
Being unable to look over the only stoppage of the night I asked what his thoughts were, “Oh it was great there’s a reason we call him Tom the Bomb, no but he did really well for him to be able to coax him onto that backhand its a rare occasion that he actually listens in between rounds and this time im glad he did”.
Leaving him with one more question I asked him who he was most excited to see get put on the next show.
“Hirum 100% that kids came on so much in the past year and when you’re that age even just six months of training is huge. If he listens and keeps training I have zero doubt that he’ll do big things in the next few years with us”.
Despite the current success that Northstar is having it seems that their head coach is keeping his gaze to the future and im excited to see what big things are going to happen in the next season.
