Monkwearmouth Y10s win the Sunderland Schools Futsal Competition

Monkwearmouth Academy’s year 10s won the Sunderland Schools Futsal Competition on Tuesday – and hope to retain their title in the Durham FA Futsal Finals soon.

It is just one achievement in a string of successes for the group this year, who also sit top of the Sunderland Schools League and are in the semi-finals of the League Cup.

Head coach Jamie Chandler couldn’t be more prouder of the boys who showed especial togetherness to win the Futsal Competition.

He told SportsByte: “I am very proud of them all tonight, their togetherness and way they represented the Academy was absolutely fantastic.

“These competitions are always very difficult so to remain unbeaten throughout is a huge achievement. I’m delighted for them all as they will now get the opportunity to go back to the North East Finals and try and retain their crown from last years competition.”

Monkwearmouth took the crown for three of the four year groups available

“The Futsal competitions have become very prestigious over the past few years”, Chandler continued, “and with Futsal being a huge part of our programme we are delighted the lads will get to put all their hard work to the test against some of the best local schools in the area.

“It’s an exciting few months for the group who currently sit top of the Sunderland Schools League and have an exciting semi final to come in the League Cup as well as now the North East Futsal Finals.

“I couldn’t be happier from them, their attitudes and application on a daily basis is a credit to the academy and their fantastic families.”

A date for the Futsal Finals will be announced in due course where Monkwearmouth hope to keep their crown intact.
