ALNWICK TOWN 5 PERCY MAIN 0

Percy Main went down to a fourth successive league defeat at Alnwick’s St James’ Park as once again a depleted Main side resulted in a one-sided affair.

The red card shown to Mark McDonnell for a moment of madness, did not help matters either, but on the positive side, Paul Middleton became the seventh player in goal for the Main this season and he had a great game, pulling off numerous saves throughout, which started as early as the first minute when he denied Alnwick’s Brad McClelland and as it turned out, not for the last time of the 90.

Inside the first 10 minutes, The Main had one of our few attempts on goal, as Billy Walker was upended on the right and Lee Johnson’s measured free kick was headed into the arms of home custodian Isaac Stephenson by Dean Deagle.

The home side broke the deadlock 37 minutes as Brandon Studholme fouled Dominic Hays just outside the area and Kieran Hogg rifled home the free kick, giving Middleton no chance. McClelland then headed wide, before Alnwick made it 2, not long after as Hogg turned provider and found Hays who made no mistake.

The first half ended with two McClelland efforts both going over the bar, but the second half almost saw Percy Main get back into the game as Rob Ridley played in Jordan Stephenson, but the home defence managed to scramble the ball off the line. At the other end, Middleton saved a strikes from Lewis Fairbairn and Hogg, and Laws follow up effort was cleared from the line.

Lee Johnson and Studholme both had efforts on goal which cleared the Alnwick crossbar, but the home side made it 3 on 72 minutes as Hogg’s effort was saved and substitute Ben Bradburn followed up to make sure.

As the clock ticked down, Bradburn added a fourth for Alnwick a couple of minutes later, Joe Ecceleston hit the post and McClelland finally got the goal that he had been threatening all game which came in the 91st minute to end the game.
