Gateshead’s Kenton Richardson was taken off with an injury just 20 minutes into England C’s international challenge match against Wales on Tuesday night.

The defender had been named in the final 16-man squad for the game which was hosted at Altrincham’s J. Davidson Stadium.

He had been struggling with a knock for much of the first segment of the game, and was taken off promptly in place of Halifax defender, Jesse Debrah.

This follows up a “minor injury” he sustained against Farsley Celtic in the FA Trophy during the opening 10 minutes of that match.

England C is comprised entirely of non-league players, and Richardson followed in the footsteps of team-mates Greg Olley, James Montgomery and Robbie Tinkler, to become the fourth Gateshead player to make the squad.

Big names including former Heed talisman, Macaulay Langstaff and Wrexham’s Sam Dalby withdrew from the match in recent days, as did Chesterfield midfielder, Darren Oldaker for varying injuries and illnesses.
