South Shields Women vs Wallsend BC Women – Match Preview

South Shields Women are hoping to make amends for last weekend as they look forward to an exciting clash against Wallsend BC Women in the NERWFL Premier Division on Sunday (2pm kick-off).

The girls fell short last time against Wakefield, despite leading at the break thanks to a spectacular Eve Gatens free-kick from distance, losing out 4-1.

It’s third against sixth in the table though only five points separate the two sides, meaning all is up to play for with only a handful of games left of the season.

The reverse fixture came all the way back in September when Jen Wootten’s hat-trick gave the girls the three points in a 2-3 away victory.

Player/coach Alex Miller’s hopes the team can regain some confidence, and make the most of Wallsend BC’s recent uneasy run. The visitors’ last match came at the hands of runaway leaders, Chester-le-Street Town who have won every match this season and they were convincingly defeated 4-0.

She said: “I’ve been looking at their recent results and they haven’t had the best run, so that’s definitely something that we can take and hopefully put them under a bit more pressure and use it as a chance to build our confidence back up as well.

“Obviously, after not the best weekend last weekend.

“It tends to always be a good game against Wallsend, very competitive, so hopefully it’ll be the same this weekend and we’ll get a few more of our key players in there and get the team where it’s meant to be.”

The girls have had more than their fair share of injuries in recent weeks and Miller is glad to see some key names back in the fold to play their part on Sunday.

“We’re looking to get a few big players back again,” she added.

“We’ve had quite a few injured in recent weeks, some really key players, so hopefully they’re going to be nice and fit for the weekend and that’ll strengthen the squad further.”
