Sunderland won three consecutive league games for the first time this season as they beat Fleetwood Town 2-0 at the Stadium of Light.

Aiden O’Brien opened the scoring for Sunderland in the 60th minute.

Max Power sealed the three points with a goal in the 82nd minute.

As well as hoping for the three points, Sunderland fans were eagerly waiting to hear Kyril Louis-Dreyfus’ first interview as owner, which aired at half time.

Lee Johnson made one change to the side that beat Burton at the weekend, with Callum McFadzean replacing Jake Vokins.

Fleetwood started quite brightly, pressing Sunderland well and forcing them into making mistakes.

The Black Cats soon took control of the game, and in the 17th minute, Aiden McGeady fired the first chance at goal, but it deflected out for a corner.

Lynden Gooch struggled to impact the game in the first half, but was moved more central later on, and in the 56th minute, he rolled his man and got a shot away, only for goalkeeper Alex Cairns to close the angle down.

Johnson’s side eventually broke the deadlock in the 60th minute, when O’Brien’s brilliant header sailed past the keeper, with McGeady claiming his tenth assist in all competitions in 2021.

Sunderland doubled their lead in the 82nd minute. Chris Maguire whipped a great corner in, and Power was free at the back post to power a header past Cairns.

The win meant the Black Cats moved up to fifth in the league. The next game is away at Crewe Alexandra, with Sunderland looking to make it four league wins in a row.
