Sunderland’s Dan Neil called up to England squad

Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil has earned an England call-up as part of the England under 20s squad. 

The 19 year old midfielder is a part of the squad set to take on Portugal in Leiria. Neil has impressed so far for Sunderland this campaign with two goals and six assists in 18 appearances in all competitions.

Neil was last involved at an international level with the under 15s.

Sunderland manager Lee Johnson said: “’What an amazing, proud, moment it was for Dan, his family, and everyone at the football club who have worked with Dan to see him now back involved again on merit.”

Neil’s teammate Dennis Cirkin and former Sunderland youth player Sam Greenwood are also included in the squad.

Neil recently signed a new contract at Sunderland keeping him at the club until 2025. When Neil signed the deal he said: “ I want to be part of getting this club back to where it belongs and there’s nowhere I’d rather be.”
