Monwearmouth FA head coach, Jamie Chandler, hailed Year 8 A’s “positive result” against Castle View on Thursday, as his side remain undefeated in the league.

Charlie Whitfield’s goal separated the two sides and proved vital for taking home the three points ahead of the winter break.

Chandler said: “It was great to round up the games programme for 2021 with a positive result.

“The standard the year 8 group have set have been very high over the past few months and we were probably a little below them first half but scored a decent goal.

“The second half we changed the system and controlled possession and the game a lot better creating some good chances in the process.

“Overall, it’s the sign of a good team winning football matches when your not quite at your fluent best.

The year 8’s have been very successful this year – the A team made the fifth round of the Under 13 Schools Cup before bowing out to Valley Gardens from North Tyneside.

And the Year 8 B team face St Mary’s College for a thrilling away tie in Hull in the new year for a chance to make the quarter-final of the national cup.

The group also made the fifth round of the Under 13 Schools Cup before bowing out to Valley Gardens from North Tyneside.

“We are very proud of what the 8’s have done so far this year performing well and advancing well in both the league and various cup competitions,” Chandler added.

“Our other Year 8 team are through to the last 16 of the National and are very talented team also. We are excited to see the work continue with both groups in 2022”
