Match Preview: Sunderland v Burton Albion

Sunderland host Burton Albion in an EFL League One match on Tuesday evening, following a disappointing 1-2 home defeat to MK Dons on Saturday.

New manager, Alex Neil, will no doubt be looking for an instant reaction to his sides performance at the weekend- leaving the Black Cats with just one win in their last nine league matches.

Burton Albion also find themselves in a poor run of form, winning one out of their last five league clashes.

As a result of Sunderland’s dreadful form, they now sit 7th in League One whilst Burton Albion sit 12th in the table.

The Brewers have proved tricky customers for Sunderland in their recent meetings, with Sunderland only winning two of the last eight meetings between the two sides.

Most recently, Burton Albion nicked a 1-0 home win against the Wearsiders at the Pirelli Stadium last August.

A win for Sunderland on Tuesday night could see themselves move up to 4th place in the league table, if other results around the league were to also go their way.

SAFC Predicted Starting XI:

Ron Hoffman should come back into the side after missing games against AFC Wimbledon and MK Dons through illness.

The back four in front of Hoffmann will most likely stay the same with Callum Doyle and Bailey Wright partnering at the back once more, with full-backs Dennis Cirkin and Carl Winchester either side of them.

A double midfield pivot could consist of captain Corry Evans and promising local lad, Dan Neil alongside him. This would see Jay Matete drop to the bench after a poor performance at the weekend.

Alex Pritchard will almost certainly keep his place in the number ten role ahead of Evans and Neil as he looks to link the play between the midfield and forward line.

Jack Clarke and Elliot Embleton could come back into the side to offer some quality from the wide areas along with plenty of energy and hard work.

Finally, League One’s top goalscorer, Ross Stewart, will keep his place up front with the Scotsman being involved in 20 goals in 33 appearances this season.
