Newcastle United Women made history on Sunday, 1st May, playing their first ever fixture at St. James’ Park. The stadium attendance was an outstanding 22,134, which broke the previous record set in January. 

This historic match started with Newcastle setting the pace and in the 3rd minute Kacie Elson gets to the bye-line and swings in a cross towards Katie Barker on the edge of the six-yard box, but the striker fires over under pressure from the defender. 

Newcastle started this game as they mean to go on with Georgia Gibson forcing a save from Stark in the Alnwick goal after the ball breaks for her on the edge of the area 10’. 

22′ and a chance for Newcastle arises as Barker connects with Elson’s cross, but the flag is up on the far side to rule it out for offside. 

In the 28th minute the ball falls to Barker after a challenge between Stark and Elson and the Newcastle number 9 calmly rolls the ball into an empty net to open the scoring for the Lady Mags 1-0. 

34th minute and a penalty has been given to Newcastle after Elson is brought down as she cuts into the area. 

The skipper Brooke Cochrane steps up and dispatches from the spot 2-0. 

Well into added time in the 45th minute and Erin Nelson causing havoc on the right-hand side, as she skips past two players but unable to find a teammate from her cross. 

The second half is underway and in the 47th minute Gibson picks the ball up 30 yards out before side stepping past three defenders with a mazy run and drilling a strike into the bottom corner from the edge of the area great finish by Newcastle’s number 10. 3-0 

58’ Katie Barker pounces on a loose ball from outside the box and then tries to go round the keeper but Stark gets a hold of it. 

60th minute and penalty to Newcastle as Gibson pounces on a lose ball, playing Nelson through and the winger is brought down in the area. Bethany Guy initially scored from the rebound after seeing her spot kick saved, but the referee ordered a retake for encroachment. Guy made absolutely no mistake second time around, slotting calmly into the bottom corner. 4-0 

69′ Newcastle substitution. Rosie Missen replaces Sharna Wilkinson. 

In the 80th minute the ball is played into Barker she holds it up well, she plays Ferguson through. The young forward does well to create room for the strike at the edge of the area, but shoots just wide of the near post. 

90+2′ Johnston fires just over for Alnwick from just inside the area. 

90+4’ Newcastle going for a 5th as Spraggon turns her defender inside and wins a corner. 

The referee blows the whistle for full time and the match finishes Newcastle 4 Alnwick 0.
