England test captain Ben Stokes smashes 17 sixes in an innings as he scored 161 in his first game back for Durham against Worcestershire in the County Championship division 2.

The all-rounder broke the record for the fastest first-class century scored by a Durham player as he reached his ton in just 64 balls and reached his 161 in 88 balls before losing his wicket.

Stokes was not the only player who contributed to Durham’s batting performance as top order batsmen Sean Dickson scored a ton and David Bedingham hitting 135 however, it was Stokes who stole the show for Durham on day 2 at the County Ground, with a scintillating knock.

Despite Stokes’ performance, Durham struggled to make inroads into the Worcester batting lineup and couldn’t claim the victory on the final day as the match ended in a draw. Matty Potts was the pick of the bowlers for Durham in Worcester’s first innings, taking his first five wicket hall for Durham however, Durham was not able to follow this up in the second innings as bowlers tired and the pitch flattened out resulting in the match being a draw.

Durham was well fancied coming into the season but they are yet to win a match yet despite some brilliant batting performances.
