Sunderland U21 vs Leeds United – Player Ratings
Despite some familiar names to fans of the first team making an appearance for the U21s against Leeds United last night, Sunderland fell to a defeat by a goal to nil.
Here’s how the Black Cats faired individually at the Stadium Of Light.
1. Jacob Carney 6
The goalkeeper put in a good performance in the first half after being tested on a few occasions but could’ve done better with the goal, as he was beat at the near post.
2. Trai Hume 6
A solid outing from the Northern Irishman, with no mistakes up against a tricky winger in Gnonto.
3. Dennis Cirkin 5
Some positives at times but was found out at times defensively receiving a yellow card as he continues his journey back to full fitness.
4. Edouard Michut 7
The PSG loanee performed to a decent level at the base of the midfield, the highlight being a first half goal line clearance.
5. Zac Johnson 6
Mixed performance after some good interceptions and composed play on the but a late challenge and some poor defensive mistakes.
6. Bailey Wright (C) 7
Led the defence well at the back with no real mistakes as the Australian international hopes to keep himself in contention for the upcoming World Cup.
7. Jay Matete 7
Solid performance in the midfield and controlled the game well.
8. Abdoullah Ba 7
Kept the ball well in the middle of the park with some promising moments going forward following his substitute appearance away to Swansea on Saturday.
9. Amad Diallo 7
Decent performance out wide on the right with the Manchester United loanee showing some nice tricks, but he lacked end product in the final third.
10. Leon Dajaku 6
Provided an out ball at times and had some opportunities, scoring in the first half but it was ruled out correctly for offside.
11. Jewison Bennette 7
Lively performance out on the left-hand side for the new Costa Rican signing and one to definitely watch for the future.
