Match Report: Gateshead 0-0 FC Halifax Town
Heroics from Filip Marschall and Ethan Pye helped relegation threatened Gateshead earn a hard-battled point in a goalless draw against Halifax Town.
Any points earned by Gateshead would’ve been greatly appreciated by the home side, with the Tynesiders losing 2-1 in their previous fixture to Chesterfield as well as being deducted one point for playing fielding an ineligible player.
Mike Williamson made one change to the staring 11 that played against Chesterfield, with Adam Campbell being reintroduced to the starting XI, while Louis Storey dropped to the bench.
In the 13th minute Marcus Dinanga found Dan Ward who took on three Halifax defenders before his shot was vitally blocked by one of the visitors’ defenders.
Tylor Gordan’s wide free-kick was floated to the back-post for Millenic Alli to guide the ball just past the post from his headed attempt in the 28th minute.
Adam Senior’s bullet header from five-yards out was miraculously saved by Filip Marschall in the 34th minute.
Gateshead’s hearts were in their mouths as it looked certain Halifax had taken the lead if it wasn’t for Ethan Pye who cleared Adam Senior’s header off the line in the 50th minute.
Fresh off the bench Emmanuel Dieseruvwe came close to giving the visitors the lead. Jamie Cook played a low-driven cross towards the near post which Dieseruvwe flicked wide in the 64th minute.
After a tussle for possession, Callum Whelan tried his luck from 24-yards out in the 86th minute when his shot was fired wide.
Just three minutes later, Whelan tried his luck again from outside the box but this time with a low and hard shot that went wide by just a yard.
