Brands Hatch BTCC battle as Sutton claims back-to-back wins

Ricky Collard looked to claim his maiden British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) win at Brands Hatch this weekend, but saw it taken away from him with two laps to go by Championship winner Ash Sutton.

After a difficult weekend at Donington Park, Sutton managed to erase those memories by claiming two wins and a second place finish this weekend for NAPA Racing UK at Brands Hatch.

Collard was fast off the line taking the lead of the race past pole sitter Bobby Thompson, who ended with a best-ever second place finish.

Sutton, who charged from 11th on the grid, flew up the positions within no time and managed to get behind collard at the latter off the race.

With two laps remaining of the race, Ash Sutton was the driver who claimed the victory due to a time penalty being handed to Collard for infringing track limits, taking away the chance of his maiden BTCC victory.

Tom Ingram also claimed a podium and as a result, Dan Cammish and Colin Turkington claimed more points in fourth and fifth. Adam Morgan also claimed a positive end to the day with sixth.

Rory Butcher and George Gamble initially started at the front end of the grid but ultimately ended with punctures and oil issues which resulted in a disappointing weekend for Toyota Cazoo Racing. The action continues 20-21 May at Snetterton.
