Match Report: Scarborough Athletic U23 0 South Shields International Academy 2
Three points at the Flamingo Land Stadium as South Shields IA secured back-to-back clean sheets.
The Mariners wasted no time, taking the lead in the 14th minute through Ryan Dougherty. Cai Prichard then doubled the lead in the 31st minute.
Shields IA are still unbeaten three games into the season, and successive clean sheets provides an encouraging sign.
The Mariners controlled the first half scoring two goals and limiting their opponent to half chances.
Shields were playing with a lot of confidence. Some beautiful football saw the ball worked from the goalkeeper into the attacking third using a combination of five-yard passes. Ryan Dougherty finished off the move with a strike from 20 yards, which nestled into the side netting.
The next goal saw more brilliance. Prichard saw the keeper off his line and unleashed a shot from 35 yards out. The keeper could do nothing as the ball looped over his head into the back of the net.
Scarborough’s best chance came late in the second half. A great run from striker Wayne Kitula saw him running at the South Shields defence. Close to the six-yard box, he cut in from the left-hand side, sending a curled effort towards goal. Goalkeeper David Mighten was able to produce the save, keeping the score at 2-0.
