Match Report: Durham Women’s 2nds 2-3 Sunderland Women 1sts
DURHAM 2 – SUNDERLAND 3
A brace from Cynthia Asogwa and a goal from Victoria Curtis gave Sunderland a hard-fought 3-2 win in their away BUCS fixture against Durham 2nds.
The first goal came in the 19th minute after a miskick from the Durham goalkeeper allowed Asogwa to slot the ball past the Durham defenders to put Sunderland 1-0 up.
Durham hit the crossbar with a penalty attempt but managed to equalise 10 minutes later through a left footed shot which beat Scarlett Gowans.
In the 71st minute Sunderland struck again with Curtis’ goal, and they looked to have secured the win after a second goal from Asogwa two minutes later put Sunderland 3-1 up.
However, in the 81st minute, Durham got a second goal to create a nervy final 10 minutes of the match.
Sunderland went into this game after a 6-2 defeat away to Sheffield Hallam and were looking to find the good form they had prior to that game when they beat Northumbria 3-1.
Sunderland was gifted a goal after the Durham goalkeeper missed an opportunity to clear the ball, allowing Asogwa to pass the ball into the goal and give the visitors the lead.
Not long after, a handball decision went in Durham’s favour and they were awarded a penalty, which hit the crossbar and subsequently went out of play for a corner. However, they managed to equalise soon after.
