F1 Launch Season 2024: Alpine Launch the A524
In a Twitch stream that launched both their F1 and WEC programmes for 2024, Alpine launched the A524.
This year’s livery is a black carbon base with blue accents that will also be pink at certain races this season. The sponsors remain largely the same, with new luxury global watch partner H. Moser & Cie being this year’s livery addition.
This year’s car is completely new compared to last year’s cars with aggressive changes from front and back. For example, there have been changes to the braking system with improved thermal management of the brakes as the team needed to improve the performance gains that are extracted from transmitting heat through the system. The team also moved the ERS battery pack rearwards to improve weight distribution.
The chassis changes are also varied, with it being lighter, having a deeper undercut, and having a less bulky sidepod with a larger airbox. There is also a redesigned rear suspension with a relocated pushrod. This should help improve corner rotation and through-corner balance, which were key factors in last year’s car.
Talking about these changes Technical director Matt Harman stated, “By applying these changes, we are giving ourselves much wider scope to add performance across the next two seasons, even if there has been some compromise on reaching certain targets, which we have pushed to the limit. We must keep pushing this dynamic development across all areas of the team.”
These changes while positive has now ramped up the pressure for the 2024 car to be a big step up from its predecssor and to rescue this stagnant F1 programme.
When it comes to drivers, On his preperations for 2024, Driver Esteban Ocon stated “It is my fifth season as a full-time racing driver at the team, and even more years before that as a young driver! There is very good trust between myself and the team and I’ve been well integrated for a long time now. Having that continuity is what we have looked for and it’s great to keep the work going, maintain a routine and take value in the relationships we have built together.”
Ocon’s teammate Pierre Gasly said he hasn’t set targets for this season as , ” These things are dependent on the package and the performance we have. If you ask any Formula 1 driver or elite athlete, they will say ‘I want to win’, but there is always more to it than that. We have to be patient and see where we stand with the new car on the track.
