Team Sunderland’s week 14 round-up

It has been a rather busy week of BUCS action on week 14 of the 2023/24 season for Team Sunderland, with some key wins and unfortunate defeats on Valentine’s Day.

There were four football fixtures for Team Sunderland, but there were sadly no wins for any teams.

The most notable football result came for the Men’s 2nds, as Gordon Armstrong’s side continued their unbeaten start to 2024 with a 1-1 draw to Newcastle’s 3rds at Ford Hub.

Meanwhile, the Men’s 1sts’ four-game unbeaten run extended to five matches now, with a second successive draw; this time, 2-2 away to Sheffield Hallam’s 2nds.

However, it was two defeats for the Men’s 4ths and Women’s 1sts, with a 10-0 loss for the 4ths away to York St. John’s 4ths, and a 9-1 defeat for the 1sts on home turf to Leeds’ 1sts.

In Basketball, though, there were two morale-boosting wins for the teams in action, as the Men’s 1sts’ two-match losing run was put to a dramatic end, as they narrowly beat Hull’s 1sts 79-78 at CitySpace.

Yet, the biggest result of the day came for the Men’s 2nds, as a 63-61 point victory over Hull’s 2nds extended their winning run to five matches.

Also, in Netball, the 1sts couldn’t build upon their two successive wins, as their away match against York St. John’s 1sts was postponed, but both of the other two teams were in action.

The 2nds comfortably beat Huddersfield’s 2nds 45-18 at home, whilst there was an easy victory for Northumbria’s 6ths, as they swept the 3rds aside with a 97-14 point victory.

For the remaining two Team Sunderland sides in action, there were defeats, as the Men’s Volleyball 1sts lost 3-0 away to Durham’s 3rds, whilst the Men’s Fencing 1sts lost 72-132 to Hull’s 1sts.
