Team Sunderland’s week 18 round-up
With the 2023-24 season in its latter stages, there were only five fixtures on a rather sparse week 18 for Team Sunderland, with two victories that both came on the road.
In their final fixture of the campaign, the Men’s Football 3rds extended their unbeaten run to three matches and have now won two on the bounce with an astounding 7-0 victory over Doncaster’s 1sts at the Eco Power Stadium.
Meanwhile, back on home turf, there was a defeat for the Men’s 2nds, as their four-game unbeaten run in 2024 came to an end with a 6-2 loss to York St. John’s 4ths (i2i), though they will have a chance for retribution in the reverse fixture on Wednesday, March 20.
The only other win on a quiet week of sport came for the Men’s Rugby Union 1sts, who returned to league action after winning the BUCS Northern Conference Shield last week. They saw past the same opposition, as Northumbria’s 4ths were beaten for the second week in a row; this time, a 41-38 win for the Men’s 1sts.
The Netball 1sts season drew to a close with defeat at CitySpace, as they narrowly lost 41-44 to York St. John 1sts, in their first league defeat in four matches.
Also, it was a narrow defeat for the Women’s Volleyball 1sts, as they couldn’t build upon their week 15 victory over Northumbria’s 2nds – losing 2-3 at home to Hull’s 1sts.
