As the hunt for the next Newcastle United Director of Football continues, Crystal Palace legend Dougie Freedman has emerged as the favourite in recent weeks but is he the right man to oversee this project going forward?

Dougie Freedman is considered a legend amongst the Crystal Palace faithful not only for his stints as a player but also his time as manager at Selhurst Park. Freedman took the step up to Director of Football in recent years  and it has proved to be a huge success.

Signings such as Eberechi Eze, Michael Olise and Marc Guehi were all made under Freedman’s charge and all have turned into consistent performers for the Eagles.

Freedman’s resume and eye for talent will have drawn Newcastle to him as the perfect person to step in to the vacant role. Newcastle United are currently without a Director of Football as their current DOF, Dan Ashworth, is on an 18 month gardening leave period after expressing his desire to leave in favour of joining Manchester United.

A key detail in Freedman’s philosophy is that of bringing in the right player, very similar to that of Dan Ashworth, Freedman will extensively research the player to make sure they are the right fit for the club, a factor Newcastle Boss Eddie Howe will be very pleased with as he prides himself on creating a cohesive family like atmosphere in the dressing room.

In the past days well respected Journalist Fabrizio Romano has stated that Newcastle are in advanced talks to bring Freedman to the club as the feel he is the right man for the job however the decision will remain with Freedman as the Palace legend is doing an amazing job and may not wish to leave despite a tempting offer.
