Darlington Town beat Prudhoe YC to end their winless run

Prudhoe YC 1-2 Darlington Town

Prudhoe suffered defeat against Darlington Town after a disappointing display at Essity Park

Matt Law opened the scoring for Prudhoe a quarter of an hour in, however Darlington replied with a goal of their own through Connor Woodford in the 34th minute. Woodford secured his brace in the 56th minute and the YC were unable to find a reply.

The home side came into the game hoping to make it three consecutive wins in the league after strong performances against Alnwick Town and Billingham Synthonia. As for Darlington Town, the away side looked to bounce back after being winless in their last four games.

Despite a slow start from the YC, Collins Unuareokpa almost gave Prudhoe a foothold in the tie in the 14th minute. The left winger cut inside and struck a low driven effort which forced Philip Pentony into a save.

Shortly after, Prudhoe took the lead. Unuareokpa embarked on another lightning run before chopping in at the byline and, after sitting down the Darlington defender, played the ball across to Law. A clever touch allowed the player to turn his man and rifle a strike into the bottom right corner.

Ten minutes later, the YC nearly extended their advantage. A perfectly threaded ball by Freddie Marr reached Roman Sparks whose shot was eventually blocked after twisting and turning in the opposition’s penalty area.

This missed chance proved costly for the home side as Darlington Town found an equaliser soon after. A pass across the box reached Woodford who expertly poked home into the bottom left corner.

The away side went ahead early in the second half as Woodford claimed his second of the game. Darlington Town’s James Beauchamp burst down the left flank before fizzing the ball across to the number 11 who fired into the roof of the net.

From this point, Prudhoe struggled to create clear cut chances to find a way back into the fixture and test the away side.

An inviting free kick from Harry Marr almost unlocked the Darlington defence in the 78th minute. Unuareokpa latched onto the delivery six yards out, but narrowly missed the chance to level the tie.

The YC will look to return to winning ways at the weekend. They make the trip to Chester Le Street Town this Saturday.
