Sunderland U21’s 5-1 Tamworth FC

Sunderland U21’s got back to winning ways picking up their first win in the National League cup with a five star performance against Tamworth.

Trey Ogunsuyi continued his goal scoring form by netting two on the night making it four goals in three games for the Belgian U17 international.

Tommy Lavery, Jaydon Jones and Ben Crompton were also on the scoresheet for the Black Cats in an impressive performance from Graeme Murty’s side.

First team player Adil Aouchiche who had started the last two U21’s games and captain Harrison Jones were not involved in the game with the potential to be involved with the first team on Saturday at Millwall.

Sunderland continued their fast starts to games by netting in the second minute, as Jenson Jones’ effort deflected onto Ogunsuyi, who wrong-footed the Tamworth keeper to give the Black Cats the lead.

Sunderland struck again ten minutes later, after fullback Lavery found himself in the middle of the box and some neat footwork allowed him to poke the ball home and establish a very good start for Sunderland.

Tamworth however hit back just before the break as a cross was not dealt with by Sunderland goalkeeper Kelechi Chibueze, who could not hold it and Callum Cockerill-Mollett tapped it home and got Tamworth back into the game.

The Black Cats came out of half-time with another fast start and it was Ogunsuyi again after Jewison Bennette’s effort was parried into the path of the striker who tapped home for his second of the night.

Substitute Jones then made an instant impact off the bench grabbing his second of the season and a fourth for Sunderland in the 75th minute.

Sunderland were running riot and added a fifth after some good build up play finally found Ben Crompton who then found the bottom corner from close range rounding off a perfect night for the U21’s.

Sunderland are up to third in group C of the National League Cup and face Manchester City U21’s on Saturday in the Premier League 2.
