Match Preview: Newcastle Benfield vs Blyth Town
Newcastle Benfield host Blyth Town tonight in Northern League Division One action.
Last time out…
The Lions travelled to Easington as the business end of the season begins.
It was a thriller at Welfare Park, however unfortunately not in Benfield’s favour, as the Lions succumbed to a 4-3 defeat. Two late goals in the last ten minutes secured all three points for the hosts.
Blyth Town travelled to Kendal Town on Saturday. The game ended 1-1. Blyth Town will be extremely eager to come away from the MKM with a win as they look to make the play-offs in their first season following promotion to the division.
Where the sides stand…
Benfield remain in the top half of the Northern League Division One, sitting in ninth with 46 points, seven points outside of the play-off positions. It remains extremely tight in the top half, only ten points separate Benfield with second place Shildon.
Blyth Town find themselves in fifth with 53 points, which makes today’s clash a real six pointer, a win for the Lions takes them within four points from play-offs. And for the visitors, taking all three points extends the gap from those below them and closes the gap to the top of the table.
Opposition player to watch…
Daniel Wilson, forward for Blyth Town, is my player to watch this evening. Wilson is on decent form, bagging 13 goals in this season’s league campaign. He will no doubt prove to be a handful for the back line tonight.
Match coverage…
Live commentary will be carried out on Newcastle Benfield’s X account if you cannot manage to make the MKM Stadium this evening.
