Match Preview: Newcastle Blue Star vs Newcastle Benfield
Newcastle Benfield take on Newcastle Blue Star at Scotswood tonight at 7:30pm, the east end vs west end clash is always one to watch, so make sure you get to the KD Stadium.
Last time out…
The Lions travelled to West Allotment Celtic in a Friday night spectacle which saw Benfield come out on top. Allotment proved to be a tough test in a feisty affair however a Joe Thompson header saw Benfield take all three points from East Palmersville.
Previous meeting…
Benfield and Blue Star met last in December, there was next to nothing between the two sides however a combination of an Andre Bennett free kick and a slip from an opposition keeper saw Newcastle Benfield come out 1-0 winners. No doubt this loss will be fresh in Blue Star’s memory, and they will come out with a point to prove.
Where the sides stand….
Newcastle Benfield remain in good stead, in ninth position of the Northern League Division One, Benfield’s top half position is testament of all the hard work of the players and staff, Andrew Ferguson and his players will no doubt look to push of course.
Newcastle Blue Star sit in fifth position, with a few games in hand on those above them, Blue Star are not yet out of the title picture, certainly looking to remain in play-off positions, so every game for the Star is huge. A loss again to Benfield would be a dagger to their play-off hopes.
Player to watch…
A player I would keep an eye on for Blue Star is midfielder Paul Dudgeon, a crafty midfielder who loves to make occasional runs into the box and grab himself a goal. He’s been in fine form this season, getting plenty goal contributions for the newly-promoted outfit.
