Five players Newcastle United could sign in the summer
After winning the Carabao Cup in March and currently sitting in a Champions League spot in the league, this season will undoubtedly be one of, if not the greatest in Newcastle United history.
As the club finally has a taste for success and playing in Europe, this will be something Eddie Howe and the owners will want to push on from as time goes on.
This summer transfer window could be one of the biggest for NUFC and there are many names being tipped to sign for the club.
Here are five players that could potentially sign for Newcastle United in the summer:
Bryan Mbeumo
It is without doubt that Mbeumo will more than likely be Newcastle’s top target this summer. As good as Jacob Murphy has been this season, the club will want another right winger who can fill the position for many years to come.
The Cameroonian has scored 18 goals in the Premier League this season and is always an attacking threat in every game he plays.
It was confirmed this week by Brentford captain Christian Nørgaard that the 24-year-old is likely to leave the club. After being linked with Newcastle many times over the past few months, it could be on Tyneside where Mbeumo ends up.
Marc Guéhi
After having four bids rejected for the defender back in August last year, Guéhi will be back on the clubs radar to try and sign in the upcoming window. It is clear that Eddie Howe is a strong admirer of the Englishmen and he would be a great replacement for Fabian Schär who turns 34-years- old this year.
He was one of England’s best players at Euro 2024 and has also captained Crystal Palace to the FA Cup final this season.
Guéhi’s contract with Palace ends in June next year and this summer transfer window could be one of the final times for the Eagles to get a good fee for the player.
Anthony Elanga
If Mbeumo’s price tag is set to be too high, Newcastle could look elsewhere for a winger and Elanga would be a perfect fit. The 23-year-old shares a close friendship with fellow swede Alexander Isak and they both have good chemistry whilst playing for Sweden together.
The club pushed to sign him on deadline day in 2024 but the bid was rejected by Forest. Elanga spoke on this not long after, he said: “I am focusing on Nottingham Forest and I hope to have a good season, then we will see what happens”.
He most likely still sits high on Paul Mitchell’s list of transfer targets and could well be on his way to St James’ Park in the summer.
Liam Delap
We all know that Isak is without doubt a certified starter for the Magpies and it will take someone special to take that away. But with Newcastle playing in four competitions next season, they may need another goal scorer who can rotate with Isak.
Delap has scored 12 goals in the Premier League this season and has shone in a struggling Ipswich side. With The Tractor Boys being relegated back to the Championship, the young striker will be looking to move on in the summer.
Newcastle could be the place where Delap ends up, as links between the two have sparked over the last few months. As much as it would be a great signing, it comes down to the price tag and whether Delap would settle as backup to the club’s star striker.
Dean Huijsen
As Newcastle look to sign a defender in this upcoming window, Huijsen is a potential signing that the club could make.
After joining from Juventus in 2024, he has played a crucial part in Bournemouth’s push for European football this season and has been solid week in, week out. Not to forget, he only turned 20-years-old in April.
It is understood that he has a £50m release clause in his contract which could potentially be a bargain. Unfortunately, the Magpies will need to compete with the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Real Madrid who also hold a strong interest in the central defender.
