Match report: Newcastle Benfield 0-1 Kendal Town

Kendal Town managed to claim a narrow victory against Newcastle Benfield following a tight match at the MKM stadium.

An early goal from Josh Winder was enough to see Kendal take all three points back to Cumbria.

The goal came inside the first four minutes when Jack Milburn played a great ball through to Jason Walker who unselfishly squared it to Winder to tap home and make it 1-0.

Five minutes later there was strong appeals for a penalty to Benfield when Lewis Orrell was brought down in the box, only for the referee to wave appeals away.

After a scrappy end to the half with no real major chances, an opportunity finally came Newcastle Benfield’s way in the 70th minute when Kieran Galbraith got his head onto the end of a corner, only to be denied by the inside of the post.

The lions would keep the pressure on for the final 20 minutes, but the Kendal backline remained resolute and managed to hold out for the three points.
