Match Report: Darlington FC 1-3 Oxford City

A disastrous loss, featuring a Matty Taylor brace for Oxford City, crushed the Quakers’ play-off hopes in hope of promotion to the National League.

In the opening 20 minutes, it was a lively start for the hosts, but despite a few chances falling their way, they were unable to convert them.

In the 29th minute, Ewan Clark slotted away City’s first of the game after confusion in the Darlington defence made it one-nil.

Shortly after, Taylor made it two after some great play from Clark, who set up the goal to extend the lead.

In the second half, a towering header from defender Conice Caroll was played over the top to Taylor, who made it three.

Later on, Darlington grabbed a consolation goal from a corner after Toby Lees headed it home.

In additional time, the Quakers were awarded a penalty following an Oxford City handball in the box.

Aidan Rutledge stepped up, but blazed it over the bar which carried on the curse of missed penalties: forward, Cedric Main missed two in their draw last game against Telford Utd away.

Results elsewhere in the play-off race also did not go the home side’s way, meaning it is another season in the National League North.
