Gateshead put three past Curzon Ashton in comfortable win

Vanarama National League North

Gateshead 3-0 Curzon Ashton

O’Donnell 2

Tear 40

Oliver 86

Gateshead secured a comfortable victory over Curzon Ashton last night at the Gateshead International Stadium in the National League North.

Goals from JJ O’Donnell, Dom Tear and Connor Oliver separated the two sides.

The Heed started the game brightly and came incredibly close two minutes in when Jordan Preston’s header was tipped over the bar by ‘keeper Cameron Mason.

O’Donnell then headed home the resultant corner from close range to put the hosts in front.

Curzon Ashton came close 15 minutes later when Sean Miller’s header was cleared off the line by Michael Nelson, but that was the closest they got all game.

Gateshead doubled their lead in the 40th minute when Preston’s shot was saved and Tear put away the rebound.

Four minutes later it was very nearly 3-0 but O’Donnell headed just wide of the mark on the end of a good ball from the right.

Chances were few and far between after that until in the 76th minute when Matthew Regan headed just wide on the end of a good cross for the visitors.

Gateshead put the game to bed 10 minutes later when Oliver put the ball onto his left foot and fired the ball into the bottom left corner from long range.

Curzon Ashton nearly had a consolation in the second minute of added time when substitute Luke Merrill’s shot went just over the bar.
