Newcastle United fans spoilt for choice over next manager in recent survey

A survey carried out by The Chronicle, has suggested that there isn’t a clear front runner among the Newcastle fans.

When asked who the Magpies’ fans want at the helm next, former Roma boss Paulo Fonseca won 23% of the votes, out of 25,000 fans.

This was only marginally ahead of second placed Antonio Conte, who won 18% of the votes from the fans despite the Italian being favourite to take over Manchester United.

In third place, former Bournemouth boss, Eddie Howe, took 11% of the votes after his proposed move to Celtic collapsed in the summer.

This again demonstrates the potential wealth of options that the new owners could have in front of them after their recent sacking of Steve Bruce after two years at the club.

Fonseca, who won two doubles with former club Shakhtar Donetsk and led Roma to the semi-finals of the Europa League earlier this year, remains the odds-on favourite for the job, however talks seem to have slowed down in recent days

As the search for a manager continues, former assistant, Graeme Jones, will be taking charge of Newcastle’s match against Chelsea on Saturday as caretaker manager.
