Lang Jacks look to extend unbeaten home run under Fawcett

Ashington are the visitors to the First Mortgage Glebe this weekend. Ian Skinner’s team are sitting sixth in the Northern League Division One table.

The visitors are coming into the game off the back of a 4-2 home win over West Allotment Celtic. 

Ashington will be looking to continue their impressive form of late with four wins in their last six league games. 

The Colliers know where the net is having notched up 16 goals in their last six matches. 

However, Ashington have leaked 48 goals so far this season, the worst defensive record in the top half of the league.

One player the home team will need to be aware of is Dean Briggs. The Ashington striker sits ninth in the top goalscoring charts having found the net 16 times so far this season.

The last time the two teams faced each other came back in September at the dwmedia Stadium. 

The home team won 4-0, scoring all four goals in the first half and wrapping the game up within the first 45 minutes. 

Whickham have since appointed a new manager, which has resulted in a change of fortune on the pitch. 

Tony Fawcett and his backroom staff have turned Whickham’s season around since they joined the club. 

The Lang Jacks are unbeaten at the First Mortgage Glebe. Fawcett’s team have lost only twice in his first ten league games in charge of the club. 

Whickham come into the game following a 1-1 draw with Sunderland RCA last Saturday. 

A game which left the players disappointed that they did not claim all three points having dominated the match. 

The home side will be without midfielder Conor Newton and defender Jack Moody due to injury. 

The Lang Jacks will have to give late fitness tests to strikers Jack Robson and Scott Robson, as well as defender Dom Agnew before making a final decision on selection. 

Whickham manager Tony Fawcett is fully aware of the problems Ashington will pose on Saturday, he said: “They’re a good attacking team, they’ve got really good attacking players, and they’ll come and have a go at us and try and score goals.

“They score loads and loads of goals; they scored another four today (vs West Allotment Celtic) it will be a tough ask to get a result.

“They are having a good season, but the Glebe is a good place for us. We like keeping clean sheet here and not conceding many.”
