Monkwearmouth’s year 10s thrashed Hetton 7-0 on Thursday as they claimed the Cochrane Cup for the first time since 2018.

A hat-trick by Dan Atkinson, a brace by Bernardo Araujo as well as strikes by Olly Dixon and Preston Holmes saw Monkwearmouth score seven on the day.

It has been a more than impressive campaign for the year 10s as they have won five trophies so far: the Sunderland Schools League; the Cochrane Cup on Thursday; the Sunderland Schools Futsal tournament; the Durham FA Futsal tournament as well as the Premier Kicks North East tournament.

A statement on the academy’s Facebook read: “An incredible performance by an incredible of young players.

“We have watched you grow and develop from Y7 and a we could not be prouder of the young people you are becoming on and off the pitch.

“Just the five trophies this year so far for this group!

“This has included 4/5 of our Y9 players this year with Harry Frazer, Gabe Hutcheon, Charlie Wilson & Bernardo performing fantastically well as always tonight.”
