High-flying South Shields Women host Alnwick Town Juniors in the North East Regional Womens Football League this Sunday.

Ben Garrity’s side saw off Wakefield AFC last time round, as Eve Gatens, Sophie Greener, Alex Miller and Ellie White gave South Shields the three points.

Attention now turns to Alnwick Town Juniors, who sit sixth in the league, having won six of the 10 matches they have played – including an impressive recent streak of wins.

Kick-off will be at 2pm at Harton and Westoe Welfare (postcode NE34 0NA) and coverage of the game will be on the club’s social media channels.

Alnwick Town Juniors have scored at least four goals in each of the past three matches, which included a 5-1 demoliton of Redcar Town, and subsequent humblings against Hull United and Harrogate Town.

South Shields must watch out for Michelle Stewart who sits joint-top of the league’s goal charts. Her 18 goals in just nine matches is hard to look past, and Garrity’s squad must be on their very best to stop her.

Shields’ Eve Gatens, meanwhile, ranks not too far behind Stewart with an impressive 12 goals in 14 games.

The fixture should prove to be a good assessment of how the team is faring, with the girls currently second in the NERWFL Premier with half of the season gone, with a three point cushion and a game in hand over third-placed Wallsend BC Women.
