TeesWear Varisty 2023 Preview

Team Sunderland welcome Teesside University to campus on Wednesday for the return of the TeesWear Varsity.

This is the first time TeesWear Varsity has been held since 2019 due to Covid-19 and its return is a welcome boost to the university sporting calendar.

TeesWear Varsity sees the universities clash across a full day of sport action with each institution alternating on hosting duties, this year Varsity takes place at home in Sunderland.

Team Sunderland Sport Development Manager Sean Percival said: “It’s been a real challenge getting TeesWear Varsity back on after a four year absence but we’re delighted to provide this opportunity for students to experience a Varsity competition.”

The action kicks off at 1pm tomorrow with most fixtures taking place at CitySpace, Beacon of Light and Ford Quarry Hub.

Students can buy their tickets for £15 which entitles them to a commemorative t-shirt, food and access to the after party.

The presentation will take place at the end of the final Basketball fixture in CitySpace at around 10pm.

Team Sunderland Student Engagement Officer Jane Thwaites said: “I am really excited for the day. The students are all really keen to get involved as it’s something a lot of them haven’t had the opportunity to compete in before.

“Hopefully our teams can put in some solid performances and we can bring home the trophy.”
