Sunderland University start new intermural 7-a-side football tournament

Sunderland University have started a new intermural 7-a-side football tournament, which will be held at Silksworth Sports Complex every Wednesday afternoon.

The tournament will consist of eight teams, all made up of University students, the majority of whom play for Team Sunderland Men’s Football.

Men’s Football saw last season cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, however their members are now back playing in some form of competition.

Men’s Football Executive Committee member Cameron Abernethy said: “It was a big disappointment that the season was cancelled due to Covid but it’s just great to be playing some kind of competitive football again.

“It’s good to be back training but training can’t provide that competitive element to the football to have that exciting engagement with the society.”
