Assistant coach Josh Akal hailed his Year 7s who cruised to a dominant 5-0 win against Redhouse Academy in the Sunderland Schools’ League last Thursday.
A brace by Ryan Davies, as well as strikes by Olly Williams, Seb Binyon and Fin Hargrave saw Monkwearmouth take the three points.
He told SportsByte that he was delighted with the team’s bravery which really has inspired the group.
“This group has improved so much collectively since the start of September to now,”, Akal said.
“We highlighted a couple things we could do a little bit better from previous games which included being a that bit more brave on the ball.
“In this game the boys did exactly that – defenders dropping deep to receive of the goalkeeper Charlie, then moving the ball into midfield, working through the thirds to create opportunities.
“Every time they went forward they looked a threat. I couldn’t be happier for them as last time out they were extremely disappointed when they didn’t pick up the points in a game they probably should have won.
“Since then they have really put in the work in training and they’ve implemented it into a game which sees them grab a 5-0 win.”
