Monkwearmouth’s year 8s win TUC Cup in thrilling shoot-out against Carmel College
Monkwearmouth’s year 8s won a thrilling shoot-out against Carmel College in the county cup final on Wednesday after the tie was settled in initial time.
The sides went into the elusive shoot-out drawn one goal apiece, as Monkwearmouth’s early strike was countered sometime into the second half.
Both goalkeepers had their moments as many penalties were saved early on, while it became a first-to-blink competition thereafter – Monkwearmouth just about came on top.
A very brief statement on Monkwearmouth’s Facebook page read: “An incredible achievement by an incredible group of young players. We are so proud of everyone of you.”
It is the first time Monkwearmouth have won the TUC Cup, having finished runners-up in 2005 against Framwellgate. However, the trophy was shared between them and Roseberry in 1979.
