Monkwearmouth’s Year 9 A squad reached the county cup quarter-finals on Tuesday following an impressive 7-0 win away at Park View.

Zac Smith bagged a hat-trick while Johsh Lounton’s brace, as well as Tom Dorgan and Fin Dixon’s strikes took the team up and beyond what had been anticipated.

Director of football, Jamie Chandler, spoke to SportsByte about the group’s recent successes.

He said: “It was another outstanding performance from this talented group of players.

“On a really difficult pitch, the players controlled the game and adapted their style of play to manage these conditions.

“There were some fantastic individual displays but as a collective the togetherness and application of the players was once again a pleasure to be part of.

“The result moved us into the quarter-finals of the County Cup and made it eight wins from eight which is a wonderful achievement for this group of players continue to grow and develop all the time.”

Monkwearmouth last won the Consett Iron Company’s Schoolboys’ Challenge Cup in 2017 when they defeated St Joseph’s from Hebburn in the final.
